Boundaries: A Biblical PerspectiveSample

Myth: Setting Boundaries Will Push People Away
Truth: Boundaries Strengthen Relationships
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." (Romans 12:18)
Some fear that setting boundaries will push people away or create conflict. However, boundaries actually strengthen relationships by fostering mutual respect and healthy interactions. When we communicate our needs and limits clearly, we allow for deeper, more authentic relationships. People may not always like our boundaries, but those who respect us will honor them.
The goal of a boundary is not to create a wall that keeps people out - but rather a pathway that leads through the garden of our lives without causing harm to us or others.
When we set boundaries, we communicate what we need for a relationship to thrive, rather than allowing resentment to build. This leads to stronger, more fulfilling connections rooted in love and understanding and blocking dysfunction from arising.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you avoided setting boundaries out of fear?
- How can boundaries help your relationships thrive?
- What steps can you take to communicate your boundaries more clearly and lovingly?
