Unboxed: AnchoredSample

In his famous teaching called the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said some pretty crazy things like: “Don’t worry about tomorrow” and “Why are you worrying about your clothing?” We might respond, “Why am I worrying about my clothing? Because it’s not what everyone else is wearing, and now I feel weird and awkward!”
Sometimes, worrying can weigh you down so much that it blocks you from seeing the good in your life. But did you know that Jesus has the ability to carry all of your worries? It’s because he knows you have nothing to worry about. He’s in control. He made you, and he knows your past, present, and future. In that same sermon, Jesus talks about how God clothes and cares for the birds and flowers. Jesus points out that if he takes care of them, isn’t he fully capable of taking care of you? Yes. Plus, you are worth far more than the flowers. God delights in caring for you, the crown of his creation. So today, rest in his care. Leave your insecurities and worries with him. He wants to carry them for you.
Reflection Questions:
- Think about when you’re worried. How do you typically feel? Is that helpful or not? What usually helps you to stop worrying?
- Worries often come from our own insecurities. What is one thing you are worrying about? Pray and ask God to help you to stop worrying and to trust that he is with you.

About this Plan

This is part 3 of 4 in the Feed Middle School series Unboxed: Created in God's Image. This plan unpacks Lesson 3: Anchored. We are often motivated by feelings instead of reality. Our insecurity can become security when we place our hope on the solid truth of God instead of the fleeting feelings of the world.
