Unmuted: Find Your Voice. Walk in Your Assignment.

DAY 3 OF 7

Obedience Always Feels Like a Risk

Let’s go ahead and say it plainly: obedience never feels safe.

Even when the call is clear, even when God has spoken, stepping out in obedience always feels like a risk. Because it is. It demands an exchange: your comfort for His calling, your control for His certainty, your predictability for His providence.

Obedience is the wild yes that puts your faith to work. And if you want to live unmuted, it’s a non-negotiable.

You’re not the first to feel the fear before the yes. You’re in good company. Ask Noah, who started building an ark because of a flood no one had ever seen (Genesis 6:13–22). Rain wasn’t even a thing yet. And still, Noah obeyed, preparing for something invisible because God had said it was coming. Hebrews 11:7 tells us that his obedience became the very thing that saved his family and confirmed his righteousness.

Obedience positioned them for the miraculous.

The Risk of Staying Silent

But let’s flip the script for a moment. What happens when we don’t obey?

What happens when we retreat, hesitate, or second-guess the assignment?

Enter Jeremiah. Young. Unqualified. Overwhelmed. When God called him to be a prophet, his first response wasn’t boldness; it was fear:

“Oh no, Lord God! Look, I don’t know how to speak since I am only a youth.” Jeremiah 1:6

And God’s answer? No coddling. No affirmation circle. Just truth:

“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth,’ for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you.” Jeremiah 1:7

God reminded Jeremiah that obedience was never about his capacity. It was about God’s presence.

“Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to rescue you.” Jeremiah 1:8

Here’s the thing: when we shrink back from obedience, it’s never just about us. There are people, purposes, and divine intersections tied to your “yes.”

We fear failing.

We fear being misunderstood.

We fear stepping out and finding nothing under our feet.

The disciples had no resume and no resources, just a two-word invitation: “Follow Me” (Matthew 4:19). When they obeyed, they didn’t just enter their purpose. They stepped into history. So the question is: what’s on the other side of your yes? What story is waiting to unfold the moment you say, “Okay, God—I’ll go”?

Let's Pray Out Loud
God, I confess that obedience scares me sometimes. I like control, I crave certainty, and I hate the unknown. But I don’t want to miss what You’ve prepared for me because I’m afraid of the in-between. Teach me to trust You more than I trust myself. Remind me that obedience isn’t about perfection—it’s about surrender. Give me the courage to step out, knowing that You will meet me there. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Living It Out Loud

Reflect: What is one act of obedience you’ve been avoiding because it feels too risky? Write it down. Then ask God to reveal what’s really holding you back: fear of failure, fear of people, or fear of the unknown.

Do: Do one small thing today that aligns with that act of obedience. Make the call. Write the email. Start the application. Take the first step even if it’s tiny.

Declare: Obedience may feel risky, but I trust the One who’s calling me. I choose faith over fear, and I say yes to what God is stirring in me.

Day 2Day 4

About this Plan

Unmuted: Find Your Voice. Walk in Your Assignment.

You weren’t created to shrink back. You were made to live boldly, walk in purpose, and reflect God’s truth with your whole life. But somewhere along the way through fear, disappointment, or pressure to conform, you may have gone quiet. Unmuted is a 7-day devotional journey to help you rise, heal, and realign with who God says you are. It's time to live unmuted—fully seen, fully sent, and fully surrendered.
