How to Hold God's HandSample

Change is the only constant in our lives; it’s inevitable. Sometimes change is what we want or desire, but oftentimes, it can be something that we must adapt to, and it can be quite challenging. It can cause us to feel fearful of the uncertainty or insecure. Whether it's the threat of looming wars, pandemics, or opposition arising against us, we can quite easily feel out of our depth.
Instead of holding on tighter to God’s hand or walking alongside Him through this, we often let go and run away from God. We try to make sense of it on our own, relying on our knowledge and experiences. How then are we supposed to go through these times of change confidently? Let us look at scripture and see what God has to say to us.
We must switch our command center from our head to our hearts (Proverbs 3:5-6). This doesn’t mean our emotions—it means the seat of our volition, our choices! Trust in the Lord with all your heart! It’s acknowledging Him as the Lord of our lives, leaning not on our understanding, wisdom, or experiences, but switching that and relying on Him. We are finite beings trying to navigate through life’s unknown, uncharted territories. We have the choice to trust in the Lord who is infinite. He goes before us (Deuteronomy 31:8 & Isaiah 45:2). We trust, like Abraham did when God called him to a land that he didn’t know! Hebrews 11:8-10 reminds us how by faith Abraham obeyed the Lord. He looked forward to the city whose foundations were designed and built by the Lord. We place our faith in the Lord and His knowledge of the future! The Word reminds us that He Himself goes before us.
So when things around us are changing, when things seem uncertain, let us learn to make that switch from relying on ourselves to relying on the Lord. He is the only constant that never changes! (Malachi 3:6), the rock that will not be swayed or moved. God is that constant in our life. Let us give up self-reliance. Let us live by faith—and when tremors come, let us not run, but hold on tighter to God’s hand.
Prayer
Our Father in heaven, we thank you, Lord, for your constant care for us. We thank you that you promise to go before us, that you never forsake us. We thank you that you never change. We pray that in changing times, you would be that rock that we can build our lives on. Help us and give us the courage and the faith that will help us confidently hold your hand through changing times. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
