All things from His hand
The Old Testament reveals God as the Father of all creation and as Jehovah Jireh – provider – through whom all things were made and given. God created the world for Adam to dwell in, with the fruit of the trees to eat and dominion over the animals. God provided the garden so Adam could dwell with Him, and God provided a helper in Eve. In the wilderness, when the Israelites had no food, God provided manna – bread from heaven. In Exodus and Leviticus, He gave His people the Law and established a covenant that set up their community. In the book of Judges, He raised up leaders to rescue His people and bring them back to Him. In 1 Samuel, though it grieved Him, God gave Israel a king like the other nations. Scripture defines God as the provider from whom all things come.
All of God’s provisions ultimately point to His greatest provision – Christ. Even in the mess we’ve created through sin, He’s provided the sacrifice for our redemption so we may be restored to right relationship with Him. God did not withhold His only Son but gave Him up for us. Truly, God has provided all that we need. Every good thing He gives us is a shadow of His ultimate provision in Christ. If we believe that God has not withheld even His Son, how can we not trust that He will graciously give us all things? Everything comes from Him. When we acknowledge this, gratitude begins to grow in our hearts. Everything we need is in His hands.
Let’s take a moment to recognise the ways the Lord has provided for us and thank Him now.
