Faith

DAY 3 OF 9

When you think of faith, do you imagine perfect certainty and emotional zen? Abraham’s story would like a word. Known as the father of faith, his journey is anything but tidy. In fact, it reads more like a spiritual roller coaster: promises made, doubts raised, missteps taken—and yet, always returning to trust.

Abraham didn’t start with heroic confidence. When God first called him to leave Ur, Abraham obeyed—sort of—stopping halfway in Haran. He later fled to Egypt during a famine, lied about his wife, and tried to fulfill God’s promise through Hagar. Not exactly the résumé of a faith giant.

But here’s the key: Biblical faith isn’t about unshakable belief or emotional consistency. It’s about relationship. Abraham wavered, stumbled, even laughed at God’s promises—but he never walked away. That, Paul says in Romans 4 (NIV), is faith: being “fully persuaded that God had power to do what He promised,” even when your feelings and logic lag behind.

And notice this crucial point: Abraham “was strengthened in his faith.” He didn’t tough it out or manufacture belief. God strengthened him. Faith isn’t self-generated hype—it’s God’s grace sustaining weak people who are willing to keep walking.

This turns our modern assumptions upside-down. Faith isn’t about pretending you don’t have doubts. It’s about continuing to trust and obey in the middle of them. Abraham’s strength wasn’t in how hard he believed, but in whom he believed. And that’s liberating.

You don’t need a flawless mindset or a spiritual high to please God. You need willingness—a heart that says, “I’ll go with You, even if I limp the whole way.” God isn’t looking for heroes. He’s looking for people who will keep showing up, trusting that His promises are more solid than their fears.

Faith, then, is less about impressive conviction and more about quiet perseverance. Less about how strong you feel, more about whether you’ll keep walking when the road gets weird. Abraham’s faith wasn’t perfect—but it was real. And that’s exactly the kind of faith God honors.

So take heart. If you’ve got doubts, fears, or just a shaky “yes” left in you—that’s enough. God can work with that. After all, He brings something out of nothing.

About this Plan
