At the end of every week, we'll give you a challenge—something to try that might be outside your regular routine. Each challenge is designed to help you develop one important spiritual habit. This week, it's...
SPEND TIME WITH GOD
There's no formula or one right way to spend time with God. Whether you already know how you like to spend time with God, or you're still trying to understand how to hear God's voice, today's challenge is going to help you experiment with some new ways of connecting with God. Try it and see what you discover about God—and about yourself, too!
A normal response to pain in our lives is to try to distance ourselves from God. We ask questions like Why did God allow this? and, where was God when this happened? But we see in today's passage that God's promises are true even when we're hurt. God promises to stay near us, and we can do the same.
For today's challenge, take time to reflect on a recent hurt. Talk to God about what promises you feel might have been broken. Ask yourself how to claim God's promises as true even when you don't feel like it at the moment.
Write down a short prayer that acknowledges the pain you're feeling and invite God to reveal a promise that answers it. Here are some of God's promises to get you started:
- I'll never leave you.
- I'll provide for you.
- I'll rescue you.
- I'll be your strength.
- I'll hear you when you call.
- I'll give you peace.

About this Plan

When life feels dark—like nothing is going right and nothing ever will—it’s easy to feel lost and hopeless. But just like the sun, moon, and stars light up the darkest sky, God’s light shines in our lives even in the hardest moments because God’s presence carries us, no matter what we face. For the next 28 days, we’ll explore how God meets us in our pain and brings light to guide us through. We’ll learn that even when we lose hope, God is closer than we know.
