The Parable of the Sower – 2
The second reason why some do not finish the race they have started is described as the seed that has fallen among the thorns: distractions (Matthew 13:22; Mark 4:18-19; Luke 8:14). In this case, the problem stems from not giving priority to things of God. The complete list includes: worldly commitments, the deceitfulness of riches, greed for other things, worries or pleasures of life. All of these things prevent a person from attaining maturity.
Writing to Timothy, Paul mentions three things that distract from following the Lord:
- Riches (1 Timothy 6:9-10).
- Human wisdom (1 Timothy 6:20-21).
- Love of the world (2 Timothy 4:10).
We must keep our eyes on the finish line and remember the reason why we began the race.
About this Plan

The Bible compares the Christian life to a race in Hebrews 12:1. Unfortunately, many people approach it as if it were a sprint, in which a quick start counts, or a middle-distance race to run smoothly. The real comparison is with a marathon, where various things and people are trying to slow us down or stop us. We must approach the race with the right mindset and with the knowledge that God provides us with the means to go all the way. What a tragedy it would be to abandon the race when victory is certain!
