Work well In the Book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul lays down the ground rules for Christian servants as it relates to their masters. He tells them to be obedient to them, to have an attitude of real reverence and respect towards them, and to do all of this with the utmost sincerity, even as if they were serving Jesus Himself. And then, Paul goes on to write something that has particular relevance to our study on the will of God: Not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart... (Ephesians 6:6 NKJV) When it comes to servants obeying their masters, when it comes to revering and respecting them, when it comes to sincerely serving them as if serving Jesus, Paul states that doing all of this equates with doing the will of God. Now, carry the application over to our day and age. The relationship of servant and master would now refer to the relationship of employee and employer. Add it all up and we see that it is God's will for those of us who are employees to obey our employers, to respect our bosses, and to serve them with the utmost sincerity. In other words, it is God's will for us to work well. Sadly, many Christians are under the false impression that their jobs are somehow off limits when it comes to God's involvement in their lives. Not true! Our work lives are a big part of His will for our lives. He determines where and whom we work for, but we determine how we work. Our work ought to be an example of what Paul's talking about in Ephesians 6:5-6. And if we aren't, then we've done something to put ourselves out of His will for our lives. It's God's will that we work well. Are we? He tells them to be obedient to them, to have an attitude of real reverence and respect towards them, and to do all of this with the utmost sincerity, even as if they were serving Jesus Himself.
