Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 228 OF 365

16-Why and What We Do Walking in the Spirit is God's will for our lives, and Paul previously presented reasons why we're to do what we're to do. But he isn't finished. With the words, "For I consider," Paul reloads and gives us another set of reasons which remind us that God's ways are always better than what's happening here on Planet Earth. The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18 NKJV) A powerful contrast is presented here. We see that this life is filled with suffering, but also that there's something coming-a time in which God's glory is going to be revealed in us as we finally meet Him face to face. And this is going to be such a glorious event that it will far outshine all that we experience on earth, especially our suffering. Watch what's next: For the creation was subjected to futility...the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:20-21 NKJV) That word for "futility" means "vanity" or "emptiness," and you don't have to live on Planet Earth for long before you realize there's always a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction attached to everything. But as God's agenda finally comes full circle, futility will be turned transformed into fulfillment. Now notice the next reason: We also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit... eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. (Romans 8:23 NKJV) God is going to redeem our earthly bodies as we receive a resurrected body that will never be subject to sickness or death. In heaven, there will be no doctor's offices, health clinics, hospitals, or cemeteries. Why should we walk according to the Spirit? Because it's God's will for our lives, and as we've just seen, His ways are always better. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today? Walking in the Spirit is God's will for our lives, and Paul previously presented reasons why we're to do what we're to do. But he isn't finished. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
