DAY 206 OF 365

His strength, His service One of the most wonderful yet neglected truths in all of scripture is this: God doesn't call us to live out our Christian faith by means of our own strength, but He exhorts us to receive and depend upon His strength. Again, and this point can't be stressed enough, it's not by our own might or power but by the power and strength of God's Spirit at work in us (Zechariah 4:6). That's David's heart-cry as he asks the Lord to grant His strength. David understood that his own resources were insufficient for the task at hand and that His gracious God was willing to give him all the strength he needed. And for the record, that's the same perspective we should have, too. However, there's another side of the coin in this verse. It's not about God giving just anyone His strength. Notice that it refers to the Lord giving His strength to His servant. That's an important point, because it reminds us that while God gives us His strength, He also expects us to apply His strength towards His service. This doesn't mean you have to sell all your possessions and spend the rest of your life on the mission field. Serving the Lord is a matter of being obedient to the calling He's placed on our lives; whether it's to be a stay-at-home mother who disciples her children, a CEO who represents righteousness in the boardroom, or a sales associate who treats every customer the way Jesus would. Serving is simply doing what He's called us to do. Sometimes we wonder why our lives aren't overflowing with the Lord's power and strength. But the real question is, What we're doing with our lives? Are we just interesting in our own thing, or are we committed to using His strength in His service? Our Mighty Master, give us Your strength so that we can be faithful in serving You. One of the most wonderful yet neglected truths in all of scripture is this: God doesn't call us to live out our Christian faith by means of our own strength, but He exhorts us to receive and depend upon His strength. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
