Walk With Jesus: 21 Days Through Matthew

DAY 18 OF 21

[The video portion of this devotional is not available on your device. To view this video, visit your plan at www.youversion.com] After Jesus was captured, He was put on trial by the Jewish leaders. They charged Him with the crime of blasphemy - saying He was equal to God. The Pharisees and Sadducees had been upset with Jesus for a while. He had been performing miracles and telling people they were forgiven of their sins, which only God had the power to do. He also broke many of the rules the Pharisees had made up for the Jews to follow. The Pharisees couldn't see that Jesus was the Messiah they had been waiting for! They were too scared to lose their own power. So they put Him on trial and found Him guilty of blasphemy. Jesus could have stopped them - He had the power to save Himself, but He didn't. He knew that He had to die to save His people from the punishment for their sin. Can you imagine what it would have been like to be in Jerusalem? How would it have felt if you were a disciple, watching Jesus sentenced to die?
