Healing in the WordSample

The lame man at the temple gate had spent his entire life in a cycle of survival. Every day, he was carried to the same spot to beg for money, hoping for just enough to get through another day. He was asking for help, but what he sought was temporary relief—money to meet his daily needs. However, God had something greater in store for him.
When Peter and John encountered the man, they saw beyond his immediate request. He was asking for money, but what he truly needed was healing. Peter’s response was powerful: “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (Acts 3:6). Instead of offering a temporary solution, Peter, through the power of Jesus, addressed the root of the man’s suffering.
This moment teaches us a profound lesson about how we approach God with our struggles. Too often, we ask God to relieve our symptoms rather than to heal the deeper issue. We ask for financial provision when what we truly need is wisdom in stewardship. We ask for relief from stress when we really need peace that surpasses understanding. We ask for healing from sickness when God may want to restore not just our bodies but also our faith and dependence on Him.
The lame man could have received money that day and remained in the same condition. But when Jesus intervened, his life was completely transformed. He didn’t just get help for the day—he was given a brand-new future. He was no longer dependent on others to carry him. He could now walk, work, and worship freely. Instead of merely surviving, he was thriving, jumping, and praising God!
What about you? Are you only asking God to fix the surface issues in your life while ignoring the deeper spiritual needs? Are you seeking temporary comfort when God wants to bring total transformation?
God desires to heal more than just our symptoms. He wants to restore what is broken at its core. If you are struggling with fear, don’t just ask God to remove anxious thoughts—ask Him to give you a spirit of boldness and trust. If you are battling an addiction, don’t just ask for strength to resist—ask Him to renew your mind and change your desires. If you are feeling distant from God, don’t just ask for inspiration—ask Him to create in you a clean heart and a steadfast spirit (Psalm 51:10).
When Peter and John extended healing to the lame man, they gave him something money could never buy—freedom. God wants to do the same for you. Instead of just asking for relief, ask Him for complete restoration. He is ready to heal you, not just for today, but for eternity.
Respond to God’s word:
Take a moment today to reflect on what you’ve been asking God for. Are you only seeking relief from temporary struggles, or are you asking for true healing at the root of the issue?
Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal the deeper areas of your life that need transformation. Instead of just asking for provision, pray for wisdom. Instead of just asking for relief from stress, ask for peace and trust in Him. Instead of just asking for healing, ask for a renewed heart that seeks after Him.
This week, challenge yourself to shift your prayers from temporary fixes to lasting transformation. Trust that God’s power is not just enough to meet your immediate needs—it’s enough to completely restore and renew you.
Will you take that step today? Ask God not just for relief, but for restoration. He is ready to make you whole.
Prayer
Lord, help me to see beyond my present struggles and realize the deeper healing I need. I don’t just want temporary relief—I want true transformation from you Lord. Show me the areas of my life where I need Your complete restoration and healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
