Living in Increase (Part 6) - Increase in LeadershipSample

Week 3: Humility
Humble Leaders Depend on God
“Humility invites in the strength of God. Pride crowds out the strength of God.” – Lysa Terkeurst
This month, we have been discussing leadership, and humility is the topic we will be covering this week. I will be honest. I was stumped when I considered “humility” as a leadership topic. I know it’s essential, but I didn’t believe there would be enough material to cover five days. I was wrong. I learned a lot through my research, and I hope you can do the same through my findings.
The definition of humility is a modest or low view of one’s own importance (Dictionary.com). Humility means putting others first. In the Christian realm, it also means admitting that we cannot do anything without Christ. Instead of boasting of our merits, we must boast in Christ. We would have nothing if it weren’t for the gifts and wisdom He has given us.
Here are nine ways that you can be a humble leader:
- Credit other team members (and God)
- Admit your own mistakes
- Accept feedback
- Offer help to others
- Be accountable
- Ask for help when needed
- Listen to others
- Treat your team with respect
- Acknowledge team members’ hard work (Briar Cook-Fellow)
The truth is that humility benefits everyone. Christians are called to love others (put them first) and honor God. Therefore, it’s even more critical that we model humble leadership as believers. Part of being humble is admitting that we don’t know everything. We can all strive to learn more and grow!
