Foundations of Faith: What Does It Mean to Be a Christian?Sample

Understanding Your Faith
Are you asking yourself, “What does it mean to be a Christian?” You’re not alone in asking! The world around you has a warped view of what Christianity looks like. The Christian faith does not have a list of rules that you must follow to be “in,” and you don’t have to go to a certain church to be considered “in,” either.
All people are sinners, separated from God (Romans 3:23). However, God made a way for us to reconcile with Him. Through belief in His Son Jesus, we have eternal life! God sent Jesus to act as a sacrifice for anyone who believes in Him (John 3:16).
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
–Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
You couldn’t earn your way to God. It is a gift from Him. Now that you have faith in Jesus, you’re encouraged to get to know more about Jesus. Over the next few days, our devotions will dive deeper into what this looks like in practice in your life.
