The imagery of remaining in the vine is of life coming from the vine and into the branches. The vine’s roots contain water and sap which give life to its branches. Sap is like a vine’s blood which produces new growth. When vines “bleed” it is actually a sign that the vine is going to produce good wine! In the same way, as we remain in Jesus, we receive the “sap” that we need for life, resulting in our lives producing fruit.
