Taming the TongueSample

The tongue, while small, is powerful in its impact. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." So why is it so hard to say the right thing at the right time? James writes, "If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body" (ESV). Today, focus on the destructive power of an untamed tongue and the importance of using words wisely. Reflect on how wise words stimulate healing while harsh words stir up anger and pain.
Can you remember a time when someone's words hurt you and caused you long-term emotional pain? We all have that one memory that stands out above the rest.
Now consider how your words may have impacted others recently. Were they uplifting or damaging? Pause for a moment and ask God for wisdom and self-control in every conversation, especially with those closest to you.
