The Beatitudes in PaintSample

The Persecuted for Righteousness
Each of the Beatitudes has highlighted an attribute we do well to desire. That is, until this one. Yet Jesus elevates it and ascribes great reward.
It is difficult to fathom the depth and breadth of true persecution happening in the world today. Statistics reveal one in seven Christians worldwide are under severe persecution for their faith. And the number continues to increase. In 2021 the number was 340 million; in 2024 it was 365 million.
Jesus apparently saw this coming, a teaching made early in his ministry, before he experienced opposition himself. He did know of the prophets before him, who had suffered gravely for their message. Jesus would soon experience rejection to the severest degree, even death by crucifixion.
The life of the persecuted is hard, but the reward is high. Those who pay the highest price have the greatest reward. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
