James rebukes believers who live by worldly wisdom - allowing envy, selfish ambition, and quarreling to reign rather than humbly submitting to God. We cannot be friends with the world and God simultaneously; He calls us to repent, draw near to Him, and resist the devil's seductive promises of self-fulfillment. May we forsake boastful arrogance about our plans, humbly acknowledging our brief lives depend on God's grace. To know the right path yet willfully disobey is sin; may we obey God's wisdom, doing the good works He has prepared.
