Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!
S: Scripture
If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then, summarize it in your own words.
O: Observation
Read Matthew 10:1–14 again.
- List the directions Jesus gave his disciples. Which ones stand out to you?
- What does this passage tell us about the mission Jesus calls his followers to?
- What questions do you have about it?
A: Application
- Jesus invites us to invite others to follow him, but we're not responsible for how they respond. How does removing that pressure change how you interact with others?
- What's something that keeps you from talking to others about Jesus? What would it look like to rethink that barrier?
- Who's someone you feel prompted to invite to follow Jesus with you?
P: Prayer
Spend some time in prayer about a person or group of people you feel prompted to invite to follow Jesus with you. Talk to God about them by name, and ask for opportunities to have natural conversations. Then, say thank you for how God has used people in your life to invite you to a closer walk with Jesus.
