Confronting Fear in Persecution

DAY 2 OF 7

REFUGE IN TIMES OF FEAR

David was known as a man after God's own heart, yet David had many struggles. He had many enemies who sought to destroy his name; they conspired to kill him. Through all of these situations, David always looked to the Lord. Constant fear and sleepless nights are common due to unjust slander and fearful situations, as our persecutors seek to take our lives, causing us to face these unjust threats at every turn. We must always remember, in these situations, that we are not alone. Though they may tell lies about us, conspire against us, and seek to take our lives, we must remember that we have refuge in our God. We must look to God, just as David looked to God.

Psalm 59:1-2 refers to an incident when Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and kill him. David had to escape and flee for his life. David was overwhelmed at this time and cried out to God in reverence. He knew that God was the strong tower for his soul when he was in danger or turmoil. We can learn from David in situations that we face today. When we feel overwhelmed by the conditions we face, when our enemies rise up against us, we can always cry out to our Lord, for He is our strong tower and an ever-present help at all times of our trouble.

Commit and Pray.

How will you respond when fear of persecution grips you? Is Christ your strongest tower?

Let us pray that when our enemies rise up against overwhelmingly, we will cry out to our Lord and let Him be our strong tower. When we are faced with these situations, we will look to God and find refuge in Him.

About this Plan

Confronting Fear in Persecution

Fear is one of the most powerful emotions when someone is being persecuted. Attacks, imprisonment, closing of churches, and the death of loved ones and fellow believers due to faith can all leave us feeling fearful to move forward in our Christian journey and helpless. This reading plan is a great way to prepare yourself to face fear when facing persecution if you are fearful of it now.
