Dinner With Jesus

DAY 7 OF 30

For better or worse, we tend to operate with the idea that bigger is better. The bigger the job, the opportunity, the influence, the following, the prestige—the better it must be. We seem to think that the bigger the job, the more important it must be. There are many reasons why this kind of thinking isn’t helpful, but maybe worst of all, it makes us think the less visible a job or a task might be, the less value it has. But nothing could be further from the truth. In this passage, the apostle Paul reminds us that the task might be the least important thing, and the attitude and mentality we bring to the task matter far more. God cares more about how we do the work than what the work is. So next time we find ourselves presented with an opportunity to do something that feels beneath us, too small, or unimportant, remember Paul’s words. Focus on who the work is for—God—and not on how big (or small) the work might appear.
