Walking in Wisdom Pt. 2

DAY 4 OF 5

### Perceiving Reality: The Third Pillar of Wisdom Living wisely encompasses a third pivotal characteristic: perceiving the true nature of our times and responding with discernment. Ephesians 5:16 warns us, “because the days are evil,” urging us to understand the gravity and urgency of our mission in this world. To live perceptively is to see beyond the superficial tranquility that might engulf our lives at any given moment. Even in seasons of personal prosperity, where family, career, and material comforts seem to align perfectly, the wise believer recognizes this world’s impermanence and inherent flaws. This discernment stems from a profound understanding that, despite the apparent goodness surrounding us, we dwell in a realm far removed from the divine perfection we yearn for. This perception shifts our gaze from the temporary to the eternal, from the earthly to the heavenly. It instills in us a holy restlessness, a spiritual nomadism that refuses to plant deep roots in shifting sands. We are reminded that our ultimate citizenship lies not here, but in the Kingdom of Heaven, where righteousness reigns and sin is no more. This awareness fuels our journey, ensuring we never become complacent or overly attached to the fleeting pleasures of this life. Reflecting on our past without Christ, we recognize the emptiness that once pervaded our existence, even during its “best” moments. Ephesians 2:1-3 paints a stark picture of our former state, one of spiritual death and aimless wandering. This past, viewed through the lens of God’s redeeming love, becomes a powerful testament to His transformative grace, urging us never to long for or glorify our pre-Christ days. Our perceptive living extends to how we view others, particularly those yet to find salvation. The current state of lost souls is one of darkness, ignorance, and hardened hearts. This sobering reality compels us to engage with the world not as judges but as bearers of hope, offering the light of Christ to those ensnared in deception. Living wisely, therefore, is an active, ongoing process of growth and spiritual maturation. It’s recognizing our continual need for grace, deepening our understanding of Christ, and conforming more closely to His image. It’s an acknowledgment that, regardless of our spiritual milestones, we are all works in progress, called to advance in our journey toward Christlikeness. It’s a commitment to see beyond the immediate, to discern the spiritual realities that underpin our existence, and to align our lives with the redemptive work of Christ, ensuring that even in the midst of evil days, we embody the wisdom, love, and truth of the Gospel. Where have your eyes been lately? Has the cares of this world choked the joy out of you and caused you to forget the day when you will stand face to face with Jesus? Fix your eyes on Him.
