Heal Unhealthy Love Patterns 7-Day Plan

DAY 3 OF 7

We Can Transform Our Thoughts Concerning Our Relationships

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

—Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Every one of us, from the smallest to great degrees, has some sort of brokenness within us because imperfect people raised us. No one is perfect—no family is perfect. Yet, no matter how small or great the dysfunctions are, our healing begins with understanding how our experiences have affected our thinking, emotions, and relationships.

Romans 12:2 reminds us that our thinking drives what we believe, do, say, and experience daily. God is so much bigger than what we have experienced. His Word can set us free to have healthy relationships—especially as we become aware of our thoughts concerning others and begin to transform those thoughts by renewing our minds. So many people focus on the other person, but we cannot change them. We can only change ourselves.

Our healing comes when we work on ourselves and allow God to lead us into greater freedom. As we spend time coaching ourselves in God’s Word, He comes in to heal us. He shows us what we need to know about our part in our relationships. The answer He has for us is in us already because He is in us and has created us! God will reveal what we need as we spend time with Him. As we learn to be aware of our relationship wounds, we can bring them to the Lord. He will show us the truth about these situations, ourselves, and how He sees us as His beloved child. In our relationships, as with everything, God has the answers that will set us free!

Decide today to be open to what God shows you about yourself. Allow Him to direct you into paths of change to experience greater joy in your relationships.

Here are three Bible-based affirmations for today:

I AM Christlike with others. I AM kind and honest. I AM encouraged and filled with hope about my relationships.

Remember, we capitalize the I AM to demonstrate our awareness that Christ in us gives us everything we need. We are nothing without Him.
