Daily Bible Reading – October 2023, "God’s Saving Word: Justice and Peace"Sample

October 13
Introduction
Today’s reading is a shift from the promise of future restoration, as described in chapters 4 and 5, to the current situation. Israel is called upon to defend itself, and the LORD acts as prosecutor. The LORD reminds the people what he requires and that those who engage in dishonest business practices and exploit the poor will be punished.
Scripture Reading
Micah 6:1‒16
Today’s Key Verse: Micah 6:8
The LORD has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.
Reflect
How does the LORD begin the case against Israel (verse 3)? Of what does the LORD remind the people (verses 4 and 5)? What recollections do you have of the ways in which God has blessed you? Reread verses 6‒8. What does God require to restore a broken relationship with him?
Pray
Lord God, help me to do what you require of me: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with you. Trusting in your steadfast love and mercy, I pray in your holy name. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Micah 7:1‒20: Micah laments the moral corruption of the people.
