Romans - Part 5: ELECTIONSample

How Shall We Be Saved?
Paul begins this passage with a dilemma: How is it that the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, obtain it? But the Israelites who pursued the law as the way of righteousness do not attain it? Paul is teaching his Jewish brothers and sisters how we must be saved. The Jews were trying to work their way to salvation through obeying the Law. But, they stumbled over the Rock, Jesus. They did not obtain righteousness and fell.
But what does the Word say? The Word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart; that is the message concerning faith that love proclaims: if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord '' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (10:6-9)
Paul is driving home the message: you cannot be saved by works, but only by confessing, by faith, your belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
