In every hero’s story, there comes a point where a choice has to be made. Does the hero allow themself to become tempted by some overwhelming riches or power? Or does the hero continue to complete the task they’ve been working toward since the beginning of the story? If we were reading these words on a page, we may want to root for our hero to do the right thing. But, if we're honest, we’d likely admit that we’d also be thinking about all the good things they’d be giving up if they did! All of the money or jewels that could have set them up for life, the powerful position that could have allowed them to do some good in the world, the glory of being a hero—a hero might lose it all when they choose to do what’s authentically right. When you look at it like that, a choice that seemed easy at face value now seems not as clear. Well, it’s a choice that we as believers face every day! Do we stray and become tempted by the things of this world? Or do we keep our focus on living a life that points straight to Jesus? For each of us, it’s not just one big choice that we make one day, but instead, a series of small decisions that make up who we are and what we find valuable in our lives. It’s a choice to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus over all else! What are some small choices you can make each day to remind yourself that Jesus is the true treasure in your life?
