Nehemiah: God's Invitation to RebuildSample

God's Plan for You
Many of us have had the experience of planning a significant event or gathering; like a family reunion, a wedding reception, or a noteworthy anniversary. And if you have, you are aware of the value in making a list to assist in accessing all that is required for the success of your event. Notifying family, friends, and colleagues, reservations, vendors, decorations, and countless other details need specific scrutiny, often requiring the assistance of many helping hands. A single leader cannot possibly do it all alone. Each entity or person on the team has a valuable part to play and contribute to benefit the entire group.
As a part of the Body of Christ, his Church, we share in spreading the message of salvation and Grace to others. Each Christian is an integral part of God's message of grace to be used through service to their local congregation as we globally seek to accomplish God’s will. Just as Nehemiah assigned the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple attendants, and ordinary residents to guard and accomplish the rebuilding of Jerusalem, we, too, must respond to the Lord's call through serving his church. Since the beginning, God has used ordinary men and women to accomplish big things. Still today, God is calling and using ordinary people to live for his glory! Every Christian is essential to God's kingdom work. Every act done in Christ is seen and rewarded by God.
Prayer: Holy God, I know you have a plan to use me in your kingdom's work, and I deeply desire to be about your business every day. Keep me attuned to your Spirit's direction and make me your servant. Amen.

About this Plan

Often touted as a “leadership” book, Nehemiah is rich in application. The way Nehemiah led the exiled Israelites in Persia to rebuild and reoccupy Jerusalem was as much an exercise in surrender and supplication as it was leadership and strategy. In this 21-day reading plan, we’ll look to Nehemiah as a role model in prayer, obedience, perseverance, and, yes, leadership.
