“…the final great image in [Revelation] is the marriage of the Lamb and his bride in the garden city, echoing but far transcending the union of Adam and Eve in the original garden [in Genesis].” (NT Wright, Revelation for Everyone)
There is a divine order within which God has created the world to be. This image of the Whore of Babylon uncovers the chaos that lies below the surface of earthly kingdoms who have rejected the call to become the pure bride of Christ and traded God’s best for excess, self-gratification & the worship of lesser things.
Chapter 17 offers us both challenge and encouragement. We are challenged to see the ways of this world for what they really are and to not give in to the way of the beast around us and within us. We can be encouraged because “the Lamb will triumph” in this war because “He is the Lord of lords and the King of kings,” and we can rest in hope that “with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers” (vs. 14). May we be those included in that group.

About this Plan

The apocalypse ("uncovering" in Greek) that John receives reveals the nature of the world as it is and will one day be. Amidst all of the cosmic imagery is a Lamb and its army who conquer through the power of sacrificial love. This 8-week plan is written by the church and for the church as we seek to follow Jesus in the 21st century.
