Back to School: Encouragement and Wisdom for the New School YearSample

Don't Gossip
Gossip, unfortunately, is a trait that often rears its head early in human behavior. During the school year, rumors and stories about other kids might make their way into our children's ears. They may hear phrases like "that girl" or hear stories about "that one kid." This is a powerful opportunity for us to teach them the difference between truth and gossip.
Proverbs 16:28 highlights the destructive nature of dishonesty and gossip. Gossip has the power to unravel friendships, driving a wedge between close friends. It's our responsibility as parents to guide our children to recognize the harm gossip can cause.
The Bible emphasizes the seriousness of gossip repeatedly, clearly reflecting God’s disdain for it. During this school year, we can teach our children to know the difference between constructive conversation and harmful gossip. By stopping gossip in its tracks and calling it out when they see it, our kids protect not only themselves but others from the painful consequences of rumors.
