DAY 3 OF 5

The Reality of Human Trafficking As followers of Christ, we should stand firm against any form of injustice and work towards freeing those bound by chains. Galatians 5:1 guides us, “For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” In today’s world, the chains of slavery have taken on a new form - human trafficking. This heinous crime robs individuals of their freedom, their dignity, and their very humanity. The International Labour Organization estimates there are around 25 million victims of human trafficking worldwide - a heartbreaking statistic. What’s even more alarming is that human trafficking isn’t a horror exclusive to far-off lands. It’s lurking in our neighborhoods, with between 100,000 to 300,000 children at risk of commercial sexual exploitation in the United States alone. It’s estimated that this horrendous crime generates $150 billion in profits each year. And shockingly, women and girls comprise 72% of its victims. The scale and depth of this issue require us to do more than just read about it. Isaiah 1:17 tells us, “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” This is a call to action. As followers of Christ, we are tasked with defending the oppressed and seeking justice for those trapped in the dark world of human trafficking. We can raise awareness about the issue. Support organizations that help victims. Advocate for policies and laws that fight against human trafficking. With God’s guidance, we can become a beacon of hope in this dark reality and work towards a world where every person is valued, free, and safe. Questions: Have you ever stopped to think about the dark reality of human trafficking and how it affects individuals and communities? What steps can you take to shed light on human trafficking in your community and beyond? Challenge: I challenge you to take a step today to educate yourself more about human trafficking and the organizations fighting against it. Every effort counts in the fight against darkness, such as online research, attending workshops, and contacting advocacy groups. [IMAGE CONTENT]
