I Quit Social Media for 1 Year (4 Biblical Lessons I Learned)

DAY 3 OF 4

Day 3. More contentment I can say with a high level of confidence that I never walked away from a social media binge feeling more content and grateful for my life and the blessings God has provided me. Instead, I consistently find that it breeds discontent. As we all know it is a highlight reel of everyone’s lives that paints an unrealistic picture of what is going on. Without all those posts showcasing everyone's highlight reels, you start to see your own life in a new light. Without the constant comparison, you can start appreciating what you have, right here and right now. It's a bit like what Paul talks about in Philippians 4:11-13. He says he's learned to be content whatever the circumstances. That's a hard lesson, but stepping away from social media can make it a little easier to learn. Or think about Psalm 139:14 - you're fearfully and wonderfully made. You're unique, and your life doesn't need to look like anyone else's to be meaningful and valuable. And not comparing my life to others on social media did wonders for my self-esteem. When I didn’t have those constant comparisons, I began to appreciate my own life and find contentment in my circumstances. I felt more at peace with who I am, which improved my overall outlook on life. All in all, I am convinced that (for me anyway) the fastest path to increasing contentment and joy in life is stepping away from social media. So, for today, why not give it a go? Try taking a break (however short) from the screen and appreciate your life and all the blessings God has provided. It might just be the path to increased contentment and joy you've sought.
