Healing Hurt From a Broken Heart

DAY 5 OF 10

Day 5: It's Okay Not To Be Okay Job was considered a blameless man in the eyes of God (Job 1:1). This doesn’t mean Job was perfect, but he was considered to be a good man with integrity. If you’re not familiar with Job’s story, let me just tell you a little about him. Job was not only a good man, but he was wealthy and had a large family. However, he lost everything in a very short period of time. In one day, his children, servants, and livestock were killed (Job 1:14-19). Then, his health began to fail. Talk about things taking a turn for the worst. However, the Bible says, “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God” (Job 1:22). Why am I telling you about this? In today’s scripture, we see Job cursing the day he was born. If you heard people talk about Job but never read the Book of Job for yourself, you might think that Job sat quietly through this whole ordeal. He did not! Job was upset. He mourned and tore his clothes; he cursed the day he was born and questioned God. Job was not okay, and that was okay with God, as long as Job did not curse and blame God and turn away from Him. I want to let you know that it’s okay not to be okay. I certainly had my days of asking God: How did I get here ? and Why is this happening to me ? God understands that we are human beings, and we will express our emotions in different ways. Some Christians believe we have to silently suffer through hard times, but that’s not true. We are allowed to feel our emotions and express them. The key is not to sin and not to turn away from God in the process. So go ahead and cry and weep, mourn that relationship, get angry, but do not sin. Don’t turn away from God and don’t hurt others in the process. Continue to walk with integrity and do good. God has blessings waiting for you on the other side of your storm if you navigate the storm with Him. The pain won’t last forever, but until it ends, it’s okay to have your moments of not being okay. Declare: I believe healing is coming for me, but I still have emotions that I wish I didn’t have. I know I don’t have to be okay all the time. I will express my emotions in a way that does not cause me to sin in the process, and I don’t blame God for what I’m going through. I will navigate my way through this storm with God.
