The Prophet ElishaSample

God’s Care for a Childless Woman
“At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son.” (2 Kings 4:16)
Today’s story is not about a poor widow but about a wealthy woman. She did not need financial support but could instead share her wealth with Elisha. However, there was something missing in her life. She did not have a son, and given the fact that her husband was old, her hope of having children had evaporated.
Besides causing the emotional pain of not having children, being barren was considered shameful in Israelite society.
Because this woman had taken such good care of Elisha and his servant, he wanted to do something for her. But the only thing she longed for seemed impossible! Therefore, she didn’t even ask. And when Elisha promised she would have a child, she was reluctant to believe it. However, with God, all things are possible. Just as Sarah received a son when she was very old, this woman also got pregnant and bore a son.
Is there something ‘lacking’ in your life? Do you ask God for it, or do you just assume there is no way your desire could be fulfilled?
