Hearts on Fire - Youth DevotionalSample

The Cross
Around 2,000 years back, Jesus died on a cross. Why? Because someone had to pay the price of everyone’s sin.
So what is sin? Let's break it down: imagine it's like having a scorecard of all the bad moves you've made - every time you messed up, lied, were savage to your parents, or disrespected a friend, you earned another point. Honestly, we'd all have a ton of points racked up! Sin is just not living life the way God wants us to live. Now someone has to even the playing field because actions have consequences. But the good news is, Jesus paid the price for all those points so that we don't have to!
Jesus was the only person that could pay the price of our sins because He is the only person that ever lived a life without any mistakes. He has the ultimate flex. He took our place and erased all the points on our scorecard. Get this - now we live in freedom and have the promise of eternal life with God! It's a game-changer!
Over to you: Maybe reading this made you think of all the points on your scorecard. The idea isn’t to feel bad but to admit that you aren’t perfect and won’t always get it right. If something you did is weighing heavily on you, ask God to forgive you and know that because of Jesus your slate has been wiped clean.
