God's Plan for Redemption

DAY 4 OF 6

As we turn the page from the Old Testament to the New Testament, we encounter God’s people, the Israelites, in a bad place. They’ve been in and out of slavery for hundreds of years, and the Romans are oppressing them. Though there were many attempts made by the people of Israel to live a life that was good enough for God, they couldn’t do it. What we come to find out is that the sin that invaded humanity in the very beginning makes it impossible for us to follow God; it has ruined our hearts. It made us selfish and envious, hateful and uncaring, and even indifferent to the needs of others. But this is where the good news enters: God sent Jesus to earth. Jesus spent three years teaching his followers about this new way of life he’s come to bring. He says it will start by him taking care of humanity's sin problem once and for all. And so, Jesus is captured, taken to an unfair trial, and put to death on a cross. But because Jesus was innocent having never sinned, he came back to life after three days, proving that he was who he claimed to be all along: the son of God and the Savior of the world. Jesus offers us new life when we choose to follow him. This is the good news the Bible is all about: Jesus takes care of what we’ve broken and can’t fix ourselves. He offers to make us new and gives us eternal life.
