Discover Jesus as the Standard for Masculinity

DAY 5 OF 6

Day 5 Jesus is a Man of Prayer Scripture records that Jesus prayed often. Have you ever wondered why Jesus, the Son of God, who is equal with God the Father, prays to His Father? Jesus came to earth as a man, and although He is God, He was also fully man, the way God intended man to be. Jesus can relate to the human condition on every level without ever sinning. As the Son of man, He accessed God through His humanity and teaches us to do the same. The pattern of prayer in the life of Jesus is a consistent theme. It was common practice for Jesus to seclude Himself in early morning prayer. His morning routine would remain constant regardless of where His mission took him. Morning and evening prayer is a daily ritual in the life of Jesus (Luke 4:42, 6:12). In John 15:14, Jesus states to His disciples: "You are My friends if you do what I command you." The word 'do' used here conveys the concept of obedience as a habit. It could also read this way, "If you keep doing what I command you." Jesus understands the role of building habits to master Himself; He develops disciplines and high-impact habits throughout His life. He utilizes the power accumulated through these daily disciplines to fulfill His mission. If there is such a high value of private prayer in the life of Jesus, how much more should you place a value on prayer? 1. Can you identify anything that you are allowing to get in the way of your prayer life? 2. Where and when can you create a secluded time and place where you spend time in prayer and devotion daily?
