LENT - a Journey for Teens: The Places We GoSample

Denial
Sadness is an emotion we cannot control. It’s a feeling that comes over us and we can try to regulate it up to a point, but it so often catches us off-guard.
That’s when we’re faced with a choice - will we allow it, by thinking about it, feeling it; or will we cut ourself off? Resist it completely? This is an incredibly important moment.
Our culture often tells us that we have to resist it in the moment and let it go. Some grow up with the idea: “Always rejoice in the Lord.” We think to ourselves, be positive and read encouraging scriptures.
There is a saying in therapeutic circles: “Everything we resist, will persist.”
When we hide from sadness - when we don’t work with it - it builds up and eventually eats us up.
What do you do with sadness in your life? What prevents you from embracing it and feeling it?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You provide the peace that passes all understanding. Give me peace in my sadness. In the precious Name of Jesus, Amen.

About this Plan

This Lent plan invites you to face that which you so easily avoid - your humanity, your brokenness, your sadness and disappointments. For the next 40 days, we will embark on an adventure filled with some alone time, prayer and fasting. Each day will provide a scripture, a guide, an exercise and a grace prayer which you can pray throughout your day.
