Wait, Watch, Worship: A Lent DevotionalSample

Wonder (from earth to glory)
Monday – 34 days before Easter
Matthew 17:1-9
What must it have been like to be one of Jesus’ closest friends? Peter, James, and John were invited by Jesus into this glorious moment of his earthly life. Jesus took them with him. Jesus led them to the mountaintop. Jesus spent time alone with them. Such an experience could easily lead the three friends to feelings of importance or priority (something they did in fact struggle with). As you read today, imagine you were one of the three friends who’d been included in this important moment. Then remember that because of Jesus’ death, resurrection, and gift of the Holy Spirit, his followers are now all included in this important moment. His followers are now all in his closest circle of friends. His followers are now all fellow heirs of God’s glory.
