Full of Worry

DAY 7 OF 7

The Present The fourth reason we can put our heads on the pillow, go to sleep, and not worry is that God desires His children to live in the present as they live for eternity. We cherish our treasure in heaven, but as we are doing that, the Lord is teaching us to do it one day at a time. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34) Focus on what you’re meeting with at the moment. Many people become discouraged not because God is not granting them what they need to deal with what they face today but because they’re thinking down the road, “How long will this go on?” Our God says, “Don’t worry about all those future moments. If I mean for you to live through them, I’ll be enough tomorrow. Your Savior will be there tomorrow. You’re not going to be alone. So, will you obey Me today? And then, will you trust Me for the future?” It’s been said, “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow. It only saps today of its joy.” What if this was your last day on Earth, and you wasted it worrying about tomorrow? God commands His children to live in the rest that He’s provided. This is not optional for us. If we’re going to live obedient lives, we have to put away our distrust of God. You can’t control how you feel, but you are free to control what you think and where you put your mind. God desires that His children testify to His goodness and His faithfulness by not worrying. Isn’t it insulting, on some level, not to trust someone? What are we saying when we don’t trust God? When unbelievers witness a life full of worry and anxiety as if God isn’t in control or as if God doesn’t take care of us? What message are we sending? Not only is our distrust toward God-dishonoring, but it’s also a lie. When we act like He can’t be trusted, we’re lying about Him. He is trustworthy. As God’s children, we are free to believe and honor our perfectly faithful God. Lord, help us to take all of our anxieties, bag them up, and cast them onto You, knowing that you care for us. Amen.
