You Belong to a Divine Family The story is told of a baby girl who was adopted by a loving, childless couple. As the little girl Mary was growing up, her parents explained to her how they had longed for their own child and how they would have given anything to have one. One day, as they visited an orphanage, they saw many babies without parents. They prayerfully chose Mary and would often tell her how they chose her, how precious she was and what great joy she brought into their lives. She grew up confident in her parents’ love. When teased or put down by other children because she was adopted, this is what she would say to them, “When you were born, your parents just took what they got. But my parents got to choose and they chose me.” We may smile at little Mary’s boldness, but do you know, beloved, that’s the same for us? We were far away from God, not a part of His family. There was a deep longing in His heart for us and so He legally adopted us by paying with the precious blood of His Son, Jesus. We did nothing to attract His love or attention. God could choose from so many, but He chose you and me. When you accepted Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior, God became your Father and there was a great celebration in heaven. You belong to an awesome family and you will never be forsaken or abandoned. Today, as God’s son or daughter, you bring Him so much pleasure. Be encouraged in knowing that God delights in you and says, “I chose you, you did not choose me. You are My beloved son and you bring so much joy to My heart. We are family and nothing can separate us.” Prayer Thank You, Heavenly Father, for choosing me and adopting me into Your family through Jesus, Your Son. I feel loved, accepted, confident and secure.
