Precious Moments That Count For Eternity

DAY 311 OF 366

Let Go and Let God The Jews were in captivity in Babylon for seventy years. During this period, King Cyrus of Persia rose up and defeated the Babylonians. God used Cyrus to allow the exiled Jews to return to their homeland. Zerubbabel led the first group of exiles back to Jerusalem, which was in ruins. Interestingly, they did not start by building the city walls or constructing government buildings. They first rebuilt the altar of God and celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles (Ezra 3:2-5). While the Jews, led by Zerubbabel, began the work of restoring the temple, they faced a lot of opposition from their enemies. They were discouraged and ridiculed, tired and weak. So was their leader, Zerubbabel. Fear gripped them and the work on the temple came to a grinding halt. However, God was on their side and sent the prophet Zechariah to encourage Zerubbabel. So after sixteen years, they began working on the temple once again, and it was finally completed in four years. We may encounter many problems when we set out to accomplish our daily tasks. We may think we can overcome our hurdles with our own wisdom and strength and we struggle to achieve our goals. At the end of the day, we are left frustrated and defeated. This would be a good opportunity to just let go and let God whisper in your heart, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.” Jesus has given us His Holy Spirit who lives in us and guides us. He wants us to depend on His strength and wisdom, which are limitless. His grace is sufficient for us. When we are weak, He supplies His power to us (2 Corinthians 12:9). The Holy Spirit is the perfect encourager. Let us depend on Him. Prayer Holy Spirit, I depend on You for every challenge I encounter. You are my helper and encourager. In Jesus name. Amen.
