The Perfect Package I have often sung these verses at church, or prayed this blessing at the dedication of someone’s house or at a marriage ceremony. But only recently, I learned the full meaning of the word ‘peace’. The Hebrew word ‘shalom’, which is understood commonly around the world as ‘peace’, means completeness, wholeness, health, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, and the absence of agitation or discord. It comes from the root verb which means to be complete, perfect and full. Have you ever tried to find satisfaction in the pleasures of this world? Many search for fulfilment, happiness and contentment in material possessions, money, sex, entertainment, and so on. But these things do little to fill that tiny ‘hole’ in our soul which only God can fill. They only serve to distract and prevent us from finding true peace. Every pursuit, other than the pursuit of God, will eventually end in misery and frustration. Jesus paid a costly price by shedding His blood to purchase for us all that the word ‘shalom’ represents. In this world of turmoil and uncertainty, He is our only hope of lasting peace. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, can give us shalom peace. His name is Jehovah Shalom! As you speak this blessing from Numbers 6 over your life today, understand that with this peace, you have total life prosperity, nothing missing, and nothing broken! Jesus has done it all, that you might enjoy shalom! Prayer Father God, help me not to settle down for just a passive picture of peace but to receive, in fullness and wholeness, the complete life that Jesus died to give me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
