God’s Unmerited favor The Bible repeatedly mentions that we have been saved by the grace of God. Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God. It means that even though we do not merit this favor, God, because of His love for us, decides to freely bestow it upon us. Joshua was Israel’s high priest when the remnant returned to Jerusalem and began rebuilding the walls. Satan accused Joshua, who was standing in filthy garments (verse 3). However, the Lord immediately rose up like a lion defending one’s cub and rebuked Satan, not just once but twice (verse 2). God’s mercy for us is so magnanimous that He chooses to save us in spite of our sins and weaknesses. Even though we deserve the wrath of God, God’s love is so merciful and gracious that He covers our sins under his blood, if we just choose to believe in Him. John 1:12 (NIV) says, Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. God gave us this right to His grace and mercy, not because of our works or our own righteousness, but because of our belief in Him. Dear brothers and sisters, next time Satan accuses you of your past or your filthy garments, just remember, that it is God Himself who stood between you and Satan and rebuked him, He chose to cover you in His righteousness and bestow His unmerited favor upon your life. So, come boldly to His throne of grace and enjoy the abundant blessings He has in store for you. Prayer Thank You, Father, for your unmerited favor and grace over my life. I come boldly to Your throne of grace, because the blood of Jesus makes me righteous in Your sight. Amen.
