Flowers Don't Worry: Journal Your Way Through Anxiety!

DAY 3 OF 7

The most commonly known fact about sunflowers is how beautifully they track the sun. In French, the sunflower is called “tournesol” which means “turns with the sun”. Such a beautiful picture of what we can do when we are in trouble! Worry forces us to focus on the situation — to nit-pick and analyse and dissect. It induces more worry and often forms a slippery slope that we can easily ride to a state of complete hopelessness. But, taking our attention away from the problem and fixing it on God is a great way to battle anxiety. David was in a plight when he wrote or let’s say “journaled” Psalm 141. Let’s not forget a lot of the Psalms are just notes taken straight out of David’s personal journal to the Lord. He is in a quandary of some kind and details it in verses 1-7 but then he says in verse 8, “my eyes are fixed on you, O Lord”. David makes a quick shift in focus. He sets his gaze on God, His Refuge and Source. I encourage you to shift your focus intentionally today and choose to track the Almighty instead of your troubles. Set your gaze on Him instead of your dilemma. Allow your emotions to be molded by your Source and not your suffering. Journaling Prompt: Today, like David, let your journal reflect your shift in focus. Declare that you are fixing your eyes on Him and write down your thoughts about how you feel as you do that. Take time to draw, paint or sketch a sunflower in your journal and as you meditate on its ability to follow the sun; you too make a decision to follow the Son. You can watch the video tutorial to learn how to draw a sunflower in a few easy steps. Prayer: Lord, I look to you. I choose today to take my focus off the challenges around me and fix my gaze upon you. In times when I feel overwhelmed and anxious, please help me remember your promises to me. Amen.
