Think Again

DAY 4 OF 5

First thought = wrong thought? Have you ever noticed how often your first thought is a wrong thought? Recently, I read every single passage in the Bible that mentions the words think , thought , thinking , or thoughtful (apparently, I don’t have many friends), and it struck me how often people in the Bible thought wrong. Here are three quick examples: Lot said, “‘Hurry and get out of [Sodom], because the Lord is about to destroy the city!’ But his sons-in-law thought he was joking” (Genesis 19:14). Jesus said, “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words” (Matthew 6:7). Jesus asked Mary, “‘Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?’ Thinking he was the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him’” (John 20:15). The sons-in-law died, the pagans missed the joy of prayer, and Mary missed a bit of her Easter joy because they all thought wrong. It is wise for you to think again. Don’t trust your first thought, gut reaction, or instant opinion. Instead, take all your thoughts to the God who knows all things and wants what is best for you. What does God think about cancer? About dying? About the problems of life? Probably not what you do! Open his Word, think again, and you will be richly blessed.
