Loving God's Word the Deuteronomy WaySample

Loving God's Word the Deuteronomy Way

DAY 4 OF 5

## Say it: Regularly Rehearsing the Truths of Scripture If you spend any amount of time scrolling social media, you’ll find a host of “affirmations” or “mantras” that are meant to empower you to live your best life. There are t-shirts that boast, “You’re worthy,” mugs that affirm, “You are the captain of your soul,” and jewelry designed to remind you that, “You are enough.” We recognize that words have the power to shape our thoughts and influence our actions, but are the words we’re meditating on actually true? Scripture tells us not to be conformed to this age, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we will be able to discern the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). But how do we renew our minds with the truth? How do we discern the will of God? To know the truth and live by it, we must look to a book that clearly outlines it for us: the infallible Word of God (Ps. 12:6; Jn. 17:17). After all, our physical and spiritual existence came into being by God’s Word, and we continue to be upheld by it today (Ps. 33:6 ; Heb. 1:3, 11:3). When we’re immersed in it, we begin to think, act, and become more and more like Jesus (Heb. 10:7; Eph. 4:22–24). By seeking God through his Word, the Spirit sanctifies us and brings a deeper understanding of and intimacy with God (Heb. 4:12). The God of the universe—who knows the number of hairs on our heads—speaks to us through His Word! There are no better words to repeat again and again! By regularly rehearsing the truths of Scripture, we remember who God is and what He has done for us through His Son, Jesus (Rom. 6:23, 2 Cor. 5:21). We take comfort in the fact that we are not “worthy” or “enough,” but God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ, even though we were dead in trespasses! We are saved solely by His grace (Eph. 2:4-5; 8-9)! We rest knowing that we are not the captains of our souls, but Christ is before all things, and by Him all things hold together (Col. 1:17). And by the power of the Spirit in us, we will not only be sayers of the Word but doers as well (James 1:22). Praise God, for his living and active Word. May this book of instruction not depart from our mouths; instead, may we meditate on it day and night, so that we may seek to carefully observe everything written in it (Joshua 1:8). Pray: Ask God to help the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart be acceptable in His sight.
