Liar, Liar Cant's on Fire: Lies Told by the EnemySample
Lie #4 - “Christians can’t be bold and courageous”
Somewhere along the way, we painted a picture of Jesus in our minds that depicts a soft-skinned, blond-haired, blue-eyed hugger. Yes, Jesus was tender and compassionate, but we have mistakenly translated His meekness into weakness. As you recall, He rearranged some furniture in the temple when merchants turned it into a shopping mall. He was not so kind about it either. Jesus knew when to be tender and when to be tough. Although we agree it is not the intent to seek confrontation and discord, we can also agree that followers of Jesus are called to be bold and courageous where it is warranted.
Jesus rebuked evil and opposed those who twisted truth. He defended those who could not defend themselves and challenged the doctrine contrary to His Heavenly Father’s mandates. We are also called to carry that torch as Christians. Not only are we responsible for reflecting righteousness and morality, but also boldly exemplify Biblical principles and standards.
Courageously proclaiming and living our faith will require walking a lonely road apart from mainstream culture. Our enemy would like us to think of our role as passive and silent. His efforts are weakened when Christians speak up and vocalize hope, faith, and love within the darkest environments. Our light shines brighter when we empower the powerless and inspire the hopeless. It requires courage to stand in the gap for people who feel separated from God. It is our duty as believers to mobilize our faith by speaking truth in the face of lies and speaking life in the face of death. Boldness requires courage and ultimately creates a climate where the enemy’s schemes and strategies are powerless.
CHALLENGE:
What environments in your day require more boldness to resist the status quo? Take more risks where gracious, courageous leadership is required.
