Hope in God!

DAY 1 OF 15

### Hope in God! Psalm 42 was written by David when he was downcast and disturbed. God seemed so far away and the memory of former days in God’s presence broke David’s heart. He cried out to the Lord: “Why have You forgotten me?” (Psalm 42:9). But he also declared to himself: “Hope in God!” David wrestled to maintain his hope in the Lord. For hoping in God does not come naturally in difficult circumstances. It is so easy to become overwhelmed by our problems and sorrows, even more so when other people question God’s existence or goodness (see Psalm 42:3). David knew that his downcast and disquieted spirit needed to be reminded of God’s faithfulness. His hope was not just a wish that his situation would change for the better. It was a confident expectation that God would save him. That’s the essence of biblical hope. It does not express uncertainty, but confident expectation that God will intervene. This hope is justified since it is based on God’s unchanging goodness. Over the next few days, let’s read some Bible verses about putting our hope in God.
