DAY 7 OF 32

# Surrender the Outcome Alicia Cardie READY “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 SET As athletes, we want to feel like we have control over the outcomes in our sports. We believe that if we just put in the work, we can accomplish the goal, and if we don’t achieve the goal, we must’ve done something wrong. While there’s some truth to that, and our work does play a role in the outcome, God tells us in His Word that He ultimately has control over the outcome, no matter what we do. When we truly receive that truth and believe it in our hearts, we begin to experience a second truth: Jesus came to give us a rich and satisfying life. As He guides our steps, He’s leading us right where we were meant to. Whether He wants to use us as an example for someone else, put us in close proximity to to go to certain people, or simply teach us something about Him or ourselves, He knows the best path for us. We can trust that His path leads us to the most joy, peace, and satisfaction in what we do—no matter the outcome. GO * Think of a time when you were upset because you performed poorly or elated because you performed well. Did you give yourself credit (or the blame) for that performance? Why? * How would your attitude and thinking change if you were able to surrender the results to God and recognize that He has a plan at work in your life? * How can you pray and ask God to help you surrender the results in your specific situation, whether it’s an upcoming competition or an opportunity to prove yourself or something different altogether? WORKOUT Jeremiah 17:7–8; John 13:7 OVERTIME "Lord, help me give up my desire to control the outcome and my attachment to the results. I’m thankful for the talent and opportunities You’ve given me—now please show me how You want to use those for Your glory. Amen."
